The German midfielder has not been very comfortable at the Allianz Arena due to his lack of minutes at the club.
The German giants prefer Aleksandar Pavlovic as their starting midfielder, and the signing of Joao Palhinha has reduced his status at the club.
Manchester United and West Ham, among others, could take action against the midfielder if they discover he is determined to leave Bayern Munich.
The player’s contract with the club expires in 2026, so it is highly likely that the club could cash in on him next year.
Goretzka, 29, has played just five minutes this season and Bayern have performed well in his absence.
Under new coach Vincent Kompany, they have won all their games this season.
The club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, was surprised by Goretzka’s disappointment and revealed that the player had been informed of the club’s pecking order during pre-season.
“We had very clear communication from the start,” Eberl told Sky Germany.
“Lyon know that we trust Pavlo [Pavlovic], we will bring in Palhinha and Joshua [Kimmich] will play more as a central striker again.
“We also said that when Leon is there and is ready to deal with the situation, he will be treated quite normally. Leon is a good guy. I like him a lot, although he is obviously depressed now. I understand him a bit as well. But that is part of football life.”
Manchester United could benefit from Leon Goretzka’s experience
However, the player’s wages could make a move to the Premier League difficult, with the midfielder reportedly earning around £273,000 a week.
The player has enjoyed a stellar career at the club, winning five Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.
He is unlikely to return to the team, so a move away from the Allianz Arena would be ideal for his career.
If he wanted to move to the Premier League, he would have no shortage of options.
The midfielder is one of the most experienced players in modern football, having represented the German national team on 57 occasions.
