West Ham and Aston Villa concerned by shock £12m free agent departure

Slowly but surely, some of the biggest names in the free agent market are starting to look for work.

Adrien Rabiot will join Roberto De Zerbi’s revolution at Marseille three months after his Juventus contract expired.

Memphis Depay travelled to Brazil with Corinthians last week, while his former Manchester United team-mate Anthony Martial has been heavily linked with a move to Greek side AEK Athens.

With Omar Sole’s contract at Salzburg terminated by Red Bull on Saturday, the 24-year-old Frenchman looks unlikely to be out of work for long.

Because, as HITC has learned, clubs across the continent are on high alert over his shock departure from the Austrian giants. The aforementioned Marseille, Anderlecht and Italian champions Inter Milan are all looking to reach an agreement.

West Ham still interested in Omar Sollet but will face Aston Villa

HITC can also confirm that Sollet has no shortage of admirers in the Premier League.

Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Wolves and West Ham are also interested in the player. They also have space on their official 25-man list to sign free agents.

Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have all expressed an interest in Sollet this summer and he still has a year left on his contract with Salzburg. It remains to be seen whether any of the three clubs plan to reignite their interest, with none of them signing a right-back in the style of Sollet before the transfer window closes on August 30.

West Ham, meanwhile, see Sollet, previously valued at £12m, as a replacement for Jean-Clair Todibo. Despite the latter being immediately on the radar of Juventus, the Seine-et-Marne-born giant still looks a positive option.

Former France Under-20 international Soule joined Salzburg from Lyon in 2020 and has won two Austrian league titles and two national cups.

According to French media outlet RMC, Manchester United have also filled Soule’s vacant position. Erik ten Hag’s side look unlikely to return to contention after bringing in Matthijs de Ligt and Lenny Euro.

Manchester United and Liverpool interested in summer

It’s not entirely clear why Salzburg decided to terminate Soule’s contract rather than wait until January and try to make a few million euros off him.

According to the Krone Zeitung, Red Bull have reached an agreement with the Red Bulls to allow the 1.93 million-euro giant to leave in the summer of 2023. Soule’s last-minute move from Germany to Hoffenheim has fallen through somewhat.

Speaking to Foot Mercato last year, Sole admitted he felt he had adapted well to life in the Bundesliga and the Premier League due to his fitness and speed on the pitch.

“England and Germany seem to be the right leagues for me in terms of my abilities,” said Sole, who was named in the Under-19 European Championship squad five years ago.

“I love the Premier League. It’s a high-intensity league and I love that. I think my fitness, my size, my speed and how strong I am in duels allows me to see myself at work in the best leagues in the world.”
