Tottenham Hotspur could sign Firmin Lopez for Manchester United

The Lilywhites currently only have James Maddison in the attacking midfield position. Dejan Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert can also play as a No. 10 if necessary, but both prefer to play on the wings. Therefore, it seems that Tottenham are trying to sign a new attacking midfielder to create competition for Maddison.

Moretto reports that Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in signing Lopez from Barcelona, and have even enquired about the details of his signing this summer.

Furthermore, journalists have said that Tottenham are not the only club that have shown interest in signing him, and that Manchester United have also started negotiations with Barcelona over a possible transfer. However, the deal never went through as neither the player nor Barcelona considered it.

However, Lopez was a regular for Barcelona last season and with the arrival of Dani Olmo, his opportunities could dry up further this season as the Catalan giants have plenty of other options to deploy the No. 10 figure.

He could therefore be persuaded to move on in 2025 if he ultimately fails to find regular playing time this season. Any club would be interested.

The Spaniard has a £338m release clause in his current contract and it is unlikely that Tottenham or the Red Devils will attempt to sign him unless Hansi Flick’s side decide to lower their asking price, especially given that his transfer market value is around £25m.

Bruno Fernandes has always been Manchester United’s first-choice attacking midfielder. Mason Mount was signed as a replacement for the Portuguese last year but has struggled with fitness issues in recent years following his move to Old Trafford. As such, it seems the Red Devils are looking to sign a new No. 10.

Lopez had a great summer with the Spanish national team, winning the European Championship and leading Spain to Olympic gold.

If Tottenham or Manchester United end up signing Lopez, he could be a smart acquisition for them.
